Rev. David C. Keiry

Rev. David C. Keiry (June 15, 1932 -December 09, 2024)

David C. Keiry, 92, of Monte Vista, Colorado passed peacefully into the presence of the Lord he served. He was born at home in Monte Vista in 1932 to Oliver and Ruth Keiry. David was well loved by family and community.

David was the youngest of 3 children. He and his brother Bill attended Center schools. After graduation he went on to attain several degrees, including a Master of Divinity from Sioux Falls Seminary.

David married his sweetheart, Priscilla Haas in 1952. Together they raised 7 children and lovingly fostered multiple more. Many others called him “Dad” as well.

Throughout their 72 years of marriage, David and Priscilla served churches in South Dakota, Oklahoma, and Colorado. David retired from the pastorate in 2014 after 58 years of serving but continued to disciple and challenge several dear brothers and sisters in God’s Word. He dedicated his life to serving others, celebrating marriages, counseling through hardships, and mourning with them in losses. He loved to teach God’s way for walking through life by using the Bible, with a caring compassionate heart.

Along with his ministry in churches, David gladly served as a hospital chaplain for San Luis Valley Regional Hospital, worked at Center Schools, San Luis Valley Correctional Facility, Blue Peaks, and Tri-County Senior Citizens.

David knew no stranger and enjoyed sharing stories, jokes, and words of wisdom with all that he met. He delighted in every phone call or visit from family and friends. In the latter years of his life, he joyfully attended Living Water Bible Fellowship. His faith in Jesus Christ is what made him the man that we all knew and loved. His deepest desire was that people would hear the message of Jesus and His saving grace and choose to turn their life into one of submission to their Savior.

David will be remembered by his wife Priscilla, his children David, Diane, Donnette, Dan, Debra, Denise and Duane and their families, along with extended family members and many friends. David loved his children and delighted in his grandchildren and great grandchildren. “Children’s children are a crown to the aged, and parents are the pride of their children.” Proverbs 17:6

Some parting thoughts that Dad would hold to come from a paraphrased statement from D.L. Moody, “When you read in the newspaper that I have died don’t believe it for a moment for I am more alive than I have ever been.” In, 1 John 2:17 it reads, “The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever.” Also, these are his favorite parting words at the end of a visit or call, “ Have a God Day!”

Service details are pending and will be released at a later time.
